Patient Telephones

During your stay, the telephone can help you stay in touch with your family and friends.

Bedside service is available on every unit except Inpatient Mental Health, Addiction Services and the Intensive Care Unit. There is a fee for this service. In addition to a connection fee, you will be charged a daily rate and will also be billed for all long distance calls.

To apply for service:

  • SSRH
    Dial 899 from your bedside telephone between 8:30 am and 4:45 pm and a representative will arrange to have your service connected within 24 hours (excluding holidays).
  • QGH & FMH
    Dial 499 from your bedside telephone between 8:30 am and 4:45 pm and a representative will arrange to have your service connected within 24 hours (excluding holidays).

To place a local call:

  1. Dial 7, wait for dial tone
  2. Dial all seven digits of the local number

To place a long distance call:

  1. Dial 7, wait for dial tone, then Dial 0 + Area Code + Number
  2. An operator will request billing information.  Calls must be billed collect, to a third number or to a long distance calling card

Directory assistance:

  1. Dial 7, wait for dial tone then Dial 411

Hospital operator:

  1. Dial 0

 

Incoming Calls

Patients who have bedside service may receive incoming calls. Please ask your family and friends to respect our rest periods.

 

Cell Phones

The public may use cellular phones and other wireless devices in some areas of the hospital. Please look for signage before using your device.

For the safety of patients, please turn off your cellular phones when you are not in a wireless friendly area.

 

Public Telephones

Public telephones are located throughout the building. Look for signs or ask for directions.
