The Nova Scotia Department of Environment recommends testing your well water for bacteria every six months.
South Shore Health provides Microbiology/Water testing for bacteria is provided for a fee.
Water samples must be in bottles supplied by South Shore Health, which can be picked up at South Shore Regional Hospital and Queens General Hospital Business Offices, Fishermen's Memorial Hospital laboratories, as well as Shoreham and North Queens Blood Collection Clinics.
Please store samples between 1 degree and 10 degrees C and deliver within 24 hours of collection. Do not freeze.
Please note - Water samples that are more than 10 degrees C will not be accepted for testing unless the client signs a waiver to have testing completed with the understanding that testing results may not be accurate.
Water samples can be dropped off:
South Shore Regional Hospital, Business Office
8 am - 2 pm, Monday - Thursday (Samples will not be accepted on Fridays, weekends, Holidays, or the day before a holiday.)
Queens General Hospital, Business Office
8 to 10:45 am Monday to Thursday
And during blood collection clinics at:
- New Germany Medical Centre
- Community Health Resource Centre, Chester
- New Ross Family Resource Centre
- North Queens Health Centre
